"The Hall of Misery" in book form

My new book “The Hall of Misery” is now out.  It would make a perfect stocking filler this Christmas, as it is roughly the size of a shin pad.

It comprises 52 pages of thoroughly dispiriting cartoons as well as poems from Miserable Malcolm’s one-man show “Graveside Manner”. It is “a book to make your heart heavier, with unremitting sorrow, sadness and glum hopelessness on every page.”

 

I will be selling copies of it, for £5 each, in Stroud on the following dates and in the following places:

Site Festival Christmas Open Studios at SVA: Friday 4^th December (Goodwill Evening) from 6pm, Saturday 5^th and Sunday 6^th 10-4 pm.

Winter Wonderlandat the Goods Shed on Saturday 12^th  and Saturday 19^th December, 10am to 4pm.

Miserable Malcolm has a couple of dates in Cheltenham over the next week.

Tomorrow (Saturday 14^th) here is appearing as part of Purplefest Presents Words and Music (in aid of Pancreatic Cancer UK) at the Copa, 66 Regent Street, Cheltenham.  Tickets are £9 and Malcolm will be appearing alongside Sarah Snell-Pym, Joy-Amy Wigman and Knowing Smirk.  It starts at 2pm.

On Friday 20^th November, Malcolm will be back in Cheltenham at Cheltenham Poetry Festival’s Fundraising Party and Auction “Hammered”, where he will be sticking to the crèmes-de-menthe and reading some poetry.  This also at the the Copa, starts at 7pm and is free.

Finally, on Friday 27^th November, Miserable Malcolm and Uta Baldauf present another of their Friday nights at the John Street Social Club at Stroud Valleys Artspace. After the success of our pre-Valentine’s night “Friday 13^th: Unlucky in Love” we’re back with a pre-Christmas Social Night of Woe, “Lonely this Christmas”. 

As always, there will be music and film clips (showcasing the worst of the festive season) and Miserable Malcolm is inviting readers to the open mic’ to share the true stories of their worst Christmases ever, as well as poems, songs and extracts from teenage diaries.

Then, on Saturday 12^th December, Miserable Malcolm will be appearing (relatively briefly) in the Stroud Football Spoken Word and First World War extravaganza that is Trenchcoats for Goalposts at the Subscription Rooms.

The Old Testament: A Brief Summary

On a less theological note, Miserable Poets’ Cafe returns this week – the Open Mic’ night for depressing poems, hosted by the less than genial Miserable Malcolm.   

It’s at SVA, John Street, Stroud, at 8pm on Thursday 29^th October, and is/ is not to be missed, depending on your disposition. (£4 on the door, but free entry for all readers.)

Miserable Malcolm is making two outings in Stroud this October.  He’ll be delivering his regular “Dose of the Morose” at Mr Fluffypunk’s Pennygaff at SVA on Saturday 10^th October at 8pm.  This month the Pennygaff features John Osborne and Molly Naylor, both of whom are off the radio, although this instance standing right in front of you.   

John Osborne also recently did a show entitled “Most People Aren’t That Happy Anyway”, so you can see why Malcolm is looking forward to it.

Then, on 29^th October and also at SVA, Miserable Malcolm will be hosting the return of Miserable Poets’ Cafe – the Open Mic’ night purely for miserable poems.  Same rules apply as before:

·         No Glimmers of Hope

·         No Light at the End of the Tunnel

·         No Positivity

but, apart from that, everything goes.

For this one, I’ll also be encouraging people to bring along writing (diary entries, poems, etc) from their teenage years.

Because, frankly, none of us are getting any younger, are we?
